Why is text formatting lost in blogs ?

venomous smile asked:

Well, I am facing a really irritating problem with posting on blogs at WordPress. When I copy text from MS Word and paste it in the blog editor, all formatting is lost after saving the post and the whole text appears in one single paragraph !

I tried things that I knew, but no good. Could somebody help ?

You have to reformat your text; if you use WYSIWYG formatting in WP, then simply format the text to match the copy source (your Word document), or even easier – type it and format it all manually without copying.
If you are using tags (BBC, HTML), then reapply those tags and preview before submit.

For a better understanding see the WP-Syntax plugin and http://wordpress.org/support/topic/215124

This tutorial demonstrates that WordPress works differently on a Windows PC than on a Macintosh running OS 10.3 when it comes to pasting into a Post or Page.

NOTE: There is a Paste from Word button inside your dashboard which is meant to be used for this purpose. Click on the Kitchen Sink icon and then click on the Paste from Word button within WordPress. This process strips the excess unwanted Microsoft Word formatting away from your content. However I’ve found it doesn’t always remove the extra code.

Damn, cool website. I actually came across this on Google, and I am really happy I did. I will definately be coming back here more often. Wish I could add to the conversation and bring a bit more to the table, but am just absorbing as much info as I can at the moment.

LOL is that what you young people would say in this cases? Hello there, i’m a 84 years old grandfather and I’ve just found this website in my browser history. My nephew used my laptop the last time he went here, I believe… he says LOL pretty often but I’ve started to undertand what it means only recently but he’s a good boy after all. Keep doing your best guys, Internet is a real blessing and you have no idea how lucky you are. Best wishes by a old man commenting for the first time
